Yoselyn Sandoval
Napavine is famous for many of their talented athletes such as graduates Grace Hamre, Connor Locke and many more. There are still plenty of newer athletes who are putting in the competition and working hard towards state championships. Mollie Olson will be headed towards the State track meet, this will be her fourth year in a row to attend. An upcoming sophomore by the name of Yoselyn Sandoval, has drawn attention.
Sandoval first started track in 7th grade and looked up to her older brother, Kevin Sandoval. He was participating in high school track and she admired him for his work ethic and natural athleticism. That inspiration led her to join track in high school.
Yoselyn is an athlete who spends a great deal of time just on the runway. She is there after school every day, improving her running capabilities. She runs at least a 200 meter sprint timed, many 100 meter sprints, a 400 meter run and her coach throws in a couple 300 meter runs. She has also been taking weights for the past year, she works out for an hour every day.
Sandoval has faced some difficulties, she had a leg injury before her freshman year. This had set back her soccer and track career for a long time. She is unable to participate in long jump now but her love for running never went away. All of the track team staff, worked with her during her freshman year. She had to make some changes to her routine- she now ices her leg every night and carries a Bengay ointment with her to every meet. Her comeback was stellar as she seemed to bounce right back to running.
Over the past year, Yoselyn has made major improvements. Her 200 meter sprint now has a current personal record of 29 seconds. Last year she had an astonishing 30 second timing but even now, she's improving. She partakes in the 100 meter sprint, 4x100 meter relay, 200 meter sprint and 4x200 meter relay. Sandoval is an anchor to the relay teams and has helped the team place well at meets.
Sandoval looks forward to her last few meets as track season comes to a close. She is hoping to make it to the sub-district meet and the districts meet.
