Mayor Don Bradshaw wishing Chuck Sonner a happy retirement.
Winlock is saying goodbye to a volunteer who has worked tirelessly for Winlock since 2000. Chuck Sonner from the Winlock Vader Food Bank and Rowdy Rooster Bistro retired on May 2, 2018.
Chuck began volunteering at the food bank during the Walk and Knock back in 2000. In 2011 he then volunteered at the food bank and in 2013 he came on full time to run the entire operation. Chuck stated, "My greatest achievement was being able to fund the food bank after losing the Sacred Heart Catholic Church funding." Chuck was instrumental in bringing the Rowdy Rooster Bistro to Winlock, a restaurant that serves great food and funds the food bank.
Winlock will miss Chuck and his hard work but we understand him wanting to retire. He has served Winlock well. He will still be a volunteer with NW Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
The Winlock Vader Food Bank feeds 200 families per week, for a total of 700. They serve hot meals every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. until the food is gone. Lately, that is by noon.
Marilyn Williams has been a volunteer in the Rowdy Rooster Bistro for a year. Marilyn and other volunteers will continue to run the food bank and bistro.
