Rochester led South Bend the entire game enroute to a 48-39 victory last Wednesday. The Lady Warriors took 32 more field goal attempts than the visiting Indians and forced 27 turnovers.
“It was a close game to start, then it slipped away from us,” South Bend HS Head Girls’ Basketball Coach Gary Wilson said. “Their pressure gave us problems. They’re a good team and I’m proud of the kids for battling back when they could. We just couldn’t sustain anything long enough.”
Rielly Myers pulled down 15 rebounds and scored 9 points and Emily Sanchez tallied a dozen points, 6 boards and 5 assists. Sierra Cearns netted 11 points and dished out 5 assists.
Coach Wilson cited Sanchez and Wilson were for their defense and Myers for her game in the paint.
Keeli DeMerse paced the Lady Warriors with 20 points.
Rochester led 17-10 after one quarter, 27-17 at halftime and 37-26 heading into the fourth stanza.
South Bend shot 32% on 14 of 43, while RHS was 20 of 75 for 26%. The Tribe made 5 of 9 free throws compared to 3 of 9 for the winners.
The Lady Indians (1-2) hosted Northwest Christian last night and Ocosta comes to town Friday. South Bend’s home game against Montesano for last Tuesday (Dec. 10) was postponed and rescheduled for Dec. 21.
