Yard of the Week belongs to Glenna Stevens
This week's yard of the week belongs to Glenna Stevens. Glenna is most likely not aware of her yard being in the Town Crier because she didn't make the submission to the paper. Her granddaughter Brandy Stevens made the suggestion. Brandy wrote to the Town Crier near the end of June and has patiently waited to see if her grandmother's yard would have an article written about it.
Brandy stated "At the age of 12, my grandma was growing roses and was in love with gardening. She bought this home almost 18 years ago. It was nothing but blackberries and brush with not a single desired plant on it. After she bought the property, she worked on it every day, but in 2007 her kidneys started failing from a kidney disease that runs in the family. She was on kidney dialysis for two years. Fortunately, in 2013 she received a kidney transplant, and as soon as she healed, she was right back outside planting more flowers and keeping the yard looking nice. Some of the flowers in her yard belonged to my great grandmothers. And, if a plant is dead in the store, she'll buy it and bring it back to life. I'm so proud of her for fighting through everything. Thank you for picking my grandmother's yard! She's going to be so happy to see it in the paper."
It is so nice to hear a story like Glenna's. The way she created a beautiful yard out of an overgrown wilderness is inspiring alone. But she did a lot more than that by fighting through her unfortunate diagnosis. I haven't had the chance to meet Glenna because of the surprise aspect of this article, but when I drove by her property, everything looked great. Brandy supplied the picture for the article along with a few more views that show what a great job her grandmother Glenna does.
