The Toledo Thursday Market had their preview this past Thursday and what a preview it was. The Toledo Market Committee has obviously been hard at work as many things are added this year. The Thursday Market begins on June 6 and runs through September 26, 2019.
Jamie Cummings, Market Manager stated, "We have twice as many vendors as last year, we offer SNAP, WIC, Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Programs." All of these programs assist in helping those eat healthy. Jamie continued, "we have expanded kids activities through the Power of Produce, this allows kids to learn how plants become food."
The year they are also offering online ordering from our vendors through www.Toledothursdaymarket.com. You can order whatever you would like and pick up your pack ready for you on market day. Toledo Thursday Market is now a member of the Washington State Farmers Market Association, it's an educational resource network and they assist with marketing.
A few vendors were ready when we arrived, Marie Shankle from "Old Achers Farm," was ready for customers when they walked up. She stated "'Old Achers Farm' is a great name for two broken down retirees." They offer produce, flowers, eggs and Yakima fruit when in season. They are a member of Farmers Veteran Coalition.
They also have other vendors, such as Telegraph Farms, which offer goat milk soaps, bouquets of fresh flowers and farm fresh eggs. Dragonfly Chocolates offer a large variety of chocolate goodies, Linda Aitchison who owns Dragonfly Chocolates stated, "I like meeting new people and visiting with friends while selling my chocolates."
