TOLEDO - Toledo Middle School students attended the national meeting of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) in Washington DC in July. Julia Davis and Sammy Thorpe won gold medals for their "Life Event Planning" event which was also showcased in the Spot light on Projects. Austyn Smith was one of four Washington State officers who was chosen to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington National Cemetery. Both Austyn and Davinagrace Ramon had the opportunity to speak with Congresswoman Jamie Herrera Beutler in Washington DC to promote Career and Technical Education and FCCLA. In addition, they received a private tour of the Capital Building.
Mrs. Rene' Ketchum, FCCLA Adviser for Toledo Middle School and Toledo High School was recognized with an Adviser Mentor Award at the Adviser session. The trip to Washington D.C. was also sponsored by a Jump$tart and FCCLA grant received last fall. Everyone came back from the trip ready to promote and publicize CTE and FCCLA in our community.
