Rain totals for the back-to-back storms that blew through were nearly 10.5 inches, according to my neighbors equipment. While we had a lot of downed branches around town, there were no power outages. Looks like it's going to be mostly clear and cold this week - the two usually go together. It's a good idea to make sure outdoor faucets and vulnerable plumbing are protected.
Happy Thanksgiving! The kindest holiday of the year. The Community Dinner at 1 p.m. on Thursday promises a large crowd and a huge variety of dishes. The Social Club has the turkeys, potatoes, gravy and drinks covered - diners bring salads, side dishes and desserts to share. It's an incredible feast! Bring your own placemats and tableware for a "finer dining experience".
There will be no meal at the Café on Friday.
Saturday night is Game Night at the Café (7 p.m.). The variety of games played depends on what folks want to play. Lately, there have been groups playing Scrabble, Cribbage, Pinochle and 5-Crown. Snacks are welcome.
Monday has Karaoke at the Café at 6:30 p.m. Come early and enjoy the best burgers and soup around from 4-6 p.m. The choice includes 1/3-pound beef, chicken or veggie burger and mostly homemade soup.
As of this writing, I don't have the menu for the January 1st Senior Nutrition Lunch. The hot meals are prepared in CAP's training kitchen and café in Kelso, "Grounds For Opportunity". They do an amazing job of providing a wide variety of meals that keep the customers coming back. Please call me at 295-3813 to make or break reservations.
"The Nest", Ryderwood's gift shop where everything is made in town, plans an Open House and extended hours the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas. This is a great little place to find one-of-a-kind gift items for holiday giving. For now, "The Nest" is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Until next week...
