Off the Rails Spa and Nail Salon staff would like to say hi to the community. Left to right, Stylist Christy Marth, Owner Nick Cordova, and Stylist Mikah Weathers.
Winlock's new spa Off the Rails Spa and Nail Salon has been trying to get off the ground in Winlock and they are well on their way. Off the Rail Spa and Nail Salon is a spa that currently offers hair care, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and so much more. Nick Cordova, owner, has recently hired two stylists and he is in the process of hiring nail technicians. As many of you know, the Spa was opened almost a year ago but it has taken some time to find the right employees.
We sat down with Nick and found that he is very community minded, he is here to help not just to make you look beautiful. Nick stated, "I took care of my dad for 5 years before he passed and maybe if I would have forced him to appreciate pedicures he might not have lost his leg. Also because I have an 11 year old daughter, and she talks about nails and hair and color and makeup and I'm in trouble. I feel it has to be also said, this town is not dying. Quite the contrary.
Everyone I've asked, outside of town, says this town is too poor for this type of business. Winlock can afford well beyond basic foot care and light 'self appreciation.' Our aging community of Winlock just needed something pretty in the center of town working as hard as they do everyday to raise the standard of services this community deserves. I've also kept our prices low because I do care about fixed incomes and hard budgets and I know what doctors charge to clip toenails." This is an important part of self care for many of our seniors, now they can relax in a spa chair while someone gives them a pedicure.
Nick is only beginning, he has more objectives for his spa, he continued, "I have many goals for my spa. Firstly, we need a nail technician! I get multiple calls weekly about nail tech specific services, and I am going to find someone that will build working relationships with our community and earn their trust and support. I have also reached out to a couple beautiful ladies in Ryderwood so that we can provide basic foot inspections and toe nail clippings for those that can't come to us. Mrs. Marlyn and Mrs. Susan were so gracious that centennial weekend in asking for our help and also providing a place to do it. Provided the board has a positive view, we might be able to start that in September and if they can't afford our pricing, or any for that matter, I will not turn them away. It is my goal, and pleasure to help Ryderwood's residents afford basic services, however that looks." Nick is here to help all of South County, not just Winlock.
Off the Rail Spa and Nail Salon will also be a part of the community, helping those in need. Nick continued, "It is my hope that Off the Rail Spa and Nail Salon, in the near future, will be giving free haircuts to our odd growing homeless community and every child that has free or reduced lunch in our school district for free." Cordova wants to be a part of the community for those in need, that's how you serve your community.
They offer many services, Nick continued, "The services OFF THE RAIL SPA AND NAIL SALON offers range from EVERYTHING HAIR RELATED, to manicures and pedicures, full body waxing, eyebrow and eyelash lifts and tints, super relaxing facials free Mimosas! It's a relaxing atmosphere to get pampered."
Christy Edwards, who is one of the stylists stated, "I specialize in customer service. When a guest comes into our spa I want them to feel like they are the most important person in the room. I have been a cosmetologist for 10 years, so I am very good with blonding services, color correction and gray coverage. I feel someone wants to come to our spa because of the relaxing fun environment. Where you can be pampered with paraffin wax on your hands or feet and have a mimosa while you enjoy our services also our prices are always competitive. Our goal when our clients leave is for them to feel happy, we know they will wanna come back and they will tell all their friends to try us too."
Mikah Weathers, who is also one of the stylists stated, "We are not just a spa, we are so much more now off the rails re-opened again. Christy and myself (Mikah) are both licensed cosmetologists. We don't just do nails! We offer manicures, pedicures, lash lift/tinting, brown lift/tining, full body waxing, coloring services, highlights, lowlights, foils, vivids, perms, braiding, box braids, extensions, and much more! If you have a vision let us help make it a reality!"
Mikah continued, "At Off the Rails Nail and Spa we have one goal. That is to provide all our clients with the utmost respect & satisfaction. We strive to create personal relationships with our clients in order to know we cater to every individual's wants and needs. We want to bring out the best in you at Off the Rail Spa and Nail Salon. We have one goal, nothing makes us happier than seeing a client leave with more confidence and a smile on their face, excited to come back and see us time and time again."
I, as the editor, like to try things out before I write the stories about a business, this was no exception. I decided to give them a shot. As many know, it is not unusual for me to color my hair University of Washington Husky purple at the beginning of football season. Christy did a fabulous job, the color was perfect, even leaving a little gray in the front for highlights. She did cover all of my gray hair, which many of you know is hard to cover. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with the girls and appreciate all the time she took to get it perfect for me. I will be back for another round of purple.
If you are looking for a new hairstyle, manicure or a toenail trim, or any other services, give them a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
