The Ocosta vertical tsunami refuge is coming along, but still under construction. The residents of Westport and Grayland have approved a $13.8 million bond issue earlier this year to replace the elementary with a tsunami proof complex that includes a gym that can withstand the forces of a tsunami wave, and is tall enough for people to take shelter from a wave and stand dry under, and can contain up to 1,000 people on it's roof. The stability of the buildings are credited to the pilings that the buildings are secured to that go as deep as 50 feet down into the ground. The tsunami complex is expected to be done by the end of August, but will not be ready to be occupied until after Christmas break of the 2015 school year. This project is the first of its kind in the United States.
