Vader is ushering in October with Punkin Chunkin on October 2 starting at 11:00 a.m. They will have games, treats and other activities for you to enjoy. The event will be held at McMurphy park which recently received grant money that Kelly Schey worked tirelessly for the citizens of Vader. This event will showcase one of the new trails.
The event takes place on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m with the Vader Lions Club hosting their second run of 'Punkin Chunkin'. This harvest festival at McMurphy Park (off of Annonen Road in Vader) is open to families with youth of all ages who are looking to launch off the season of autumn fun. October is the right month to start off with treats as by the end of the month there will be many with a bag full of candy.
This year's event will have a free photobooth, movie showing and game tickets for $1 a piece (games will run 1 to 2 tickets each round). Slices of pumpkin pie, apple cider, hot coffee and a variety of other food will be available for purchase.

- Goblin Egg Toss is where you toss colored eggs at a target.
- Candy Hay Dig is where you dig in the hay for treat bags filled with candy.
- Eggball Pog cups will be filled with treats, and you toss an eyeball into the cup to win.
- Eyeball Hunt is located in the new trail and McMurphy Park.
- Slingshot a Pumpkin by purchasing a pumpkin and slinging it as far as you can.

The games run the entire duration of the event. Most will include a goodie upon completion!
Lewis County Vader Fire District has also generously donated free "trick or treat" safety bags that the Lions club will be handing out! Safety bags are important for kids, please consider grabbing one from the Lions Club members walking around with them.
The Vader Lions Club is also accepting donations for non-perishable food to donate to the Winlock-Vader Food Bank. The Walk and Knock is coming up shortly, any help is appreciated with non-perishable items.
Lions Club Zone Chair Jessica G stated, "The reason why I started this event a few years ago [before COVID] is because we really didn't have a lot of activities during this time of year and I felt like the community really needed more fun events locally during this season. It's a great time of year, and I wanted to make sure that the kids and their families had an opportunity to get off their screens, go outside and have some fall time fun!"
Also assisting with this event is Kelly Schey. "I love celebrating the fall season by hitting up a variety of different harvest activities with our family," Schey said. "We always have so much fun. Every year, we talk about how we wish there were more activities to explore closer to home during the month, not just all the cool stuff on Halloween. I'm also all about community service, so I'm excited to be able to volunteer for this event for the first time with the Vader Lions in a family fun event!"
So come on in for affordable family games and fun. Be ready for a surprise, the Lions Club heard that the Great Pumpkin may actually pay us a visit.
