Raymond smashed North Beach twice and then had the tables turned when Ocosta whipped the Lady Seagulls twice in fastpitch softball doubleheaders last week.
Last Wednesday (March 28) at North Beach, Raymond stomped the Lady Hyaks 15-5 and 17-6.
In the opener, Makenna Williams went 4 for 4 at the plate with a home run, the first in school history. Izzy Silvernail (2-0) was the winning pitcher, going innings, striking out 6, allowing 2 walks, 7 hits and 5 runs.
"The first game, defensively and pitching we were pretty solid, only having two errors," RHS head coach Jason Koski told the Herald. "Izzy pitched a great game, being able to hit her spots when she needed to.
In the nitecap, Raymond pitcher Katie Doyle upped her record to 4-0 while going 6 innings, whiffing 4, walking 1, giving up 8 and 6 runs.
"The second game, defensively, as a team, we didn't help our pitcher (Doyle) out much by committing eight errors," Coach Koski said. "Fortunately, the bottom of our batting order with Maddi Silvernail (2 RBI), Izzy Silvernail (3 for 3 with a triple and double), Breauna Bowling (2 for 2 with 3 RBI) and Justeena Foust (2 RBI) came through to provide enough runs late to get the win."
In the two games, Williams was 6 for 9 with 5 RBI, a home run, 3 triples, a double, 5 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.
Hannah Miller was 4 for 7 with 5 runs, 4 RBI, 5 stolen bases, a triple and a double.
Silvernail was 5 for 8 1 with a triple, double, 3 singles and 3 stolen bases.
Tegen Fleury went 4 for 9 with a double and 4 stolen bases.
Aiyana Stepp had 4 singles in 5 at-bats.
With the sweep, Raymond improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Pacific League, while North Beach dipped to 2-3 and 0-2.
Last Friday Ocosta proved to be too strong during the 26-3 (4 innings) and 22-0 (2 innings) shellackings on Raymond's home turf.
Williams was Raymond's only player with multiple hits on the night, going 2 for 4 with a home run, a single and 2 RBI.
"Ocosta is a very good team, with good pitching, defense and obviously they can hit the ball," Coach Koski told the Herald. They did a nice job taking advantage of hitting with the ball in the middle of the zone.
"Defensively, we will have to be much more disciplined to give ourselves a chance to compete with the better teams in our district," Koski said. "There were many lessons learned and if we keep this game in the proper perspective, we can make the improvements needed to get better."
Raymond was scheduled to take on Montesano's junior varsity Monday on the road. The Lady Seagulls (6-2) head to Chief Leschi for two games Thursday before hosting Montesano's JV Tuesday, April 10.
