Cathy Kinnaman
Cathy Kinnaman is retiring after 30 years of teaching at Winlock Miller Elementary School. She started her teaching career in Illinois. After coming to Lewis County to spend time with her grandmother. Kinnaman decided to stay.
When you talk to Mrs. Kinnaman you know her heart is at the school with the kids. She has thoroughly enjoyed her time at the school, stating, "The best part is having all the kids. The kids are the joy. I didn't have children of my own so, instead, here we are. I teach them Physical Education."
Kinnaman has seen many changes throughout her years of teaching. "Winlock has changed a lot. We have different students today than we did 30 years ago. The students need someone to have their backs."
Kinnaman is looking forward to retirement. "I am looking forward to getting my health back. I am going to spend time with my husband. He has been retired for 14 years. We are looking forward to spending time with the horses and just horsing around."
When Kinnaman talks about retiring her eyes swell up with tears. It is obvious this has been a big part of her life. She stated, "I am going to miss the kids. I told them in March and I have been grieving ever since. Kids are kids and they look forward to someone noticing them. No doubt, Kinnaman notices and enjoys every child in her class. Her heart is with her students.
Denise Morlin, Behavior Specialist at Winlock Miller Elementary School, stated, "Mrs. Kinnaman's students yell at the top of their lungs at every assembly "We love PE!" Kinnaman will be greatly missed. Assemblies will never be the same.
