Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals (HAVA) is holding a raffle that could feed your family for Christmas.
HAVA is putting together two Holiday Dinner Baskets: one with a turkey and the other with ham. Both the turkey and ham are frozen. The baskets include sides and treats to feed a family of four. These baskets will be raffled off with the winners drawn on Dec. 18.
The goal is to raise as much money as possible to help with the expenses of the care and adoption of pets.
"We've had to turn away animals for the past few weeks because we simply don't have the money to care for them," said HAVA Volunteer Mary Mast. "We have found homes for more than 250 cats, 60 dogs, a guinea pig and a few rabbits this year not to mention spaying/neutering and vaccinating more than 150 feral cats. We've helped more than 60 residents spay/neuter their animals. So our cupboards are bare so to speak!"
The majority of HAVA's budget is spent on veterinary expenses throughout the year. With the collaboration of NW Spay and Neuter in Tacoma, HAVA is trapping 20 to 30 feral cats each month. The feral cats are then spayed/neutered and vaccinated at minimal cost to HAVA. Each animal that they take in that is put up for adoption is spayed/neutered as well.
By purchasing raffle tickets for the Holiday Dinner, you are helping HAVA continue its mission. The raffle tickets are only $2 each or $5 for three tickets. Tickets are available at Sea Bird Gifts & Candy, Vetters Animal Hospital and Willapa Veterinary Service. Or can be purchased by calling Cindy at (360) 972-0880 or Julie at (206) 637-2559. Tickets are also available at Harry's House (HAVA), 431 Second Street, Raymond on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
After the drawing on Dec. 18, the winner will be called and can pick up the dinners from Harry's House on Wednesday, Dec. 20 between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
HAVA asks that you fill out your contact information on the ticket completely so they can let you know if you are a winner.
"We really need the community's help," said Mast. "We are an all volunteer nonprofit organization and we rely solely on donations. Without the support of our neighbors, HAVA wouldn't exist."
