The time capsule display at the Raymond Timberland Library will be available through January.
Freemasons from Raymond are revealing some of their secrets this month.
A display of memorabilia from a recently opened time capsule has been set up in the Raymond Timberland Library at 507 Duryea Street. It will be available for public viewing through January.
The display highlights the contents of the capsule, which was opened by members of Occident 48, Free and Accepted Masons, in September. It had been sealed when the Raymond Masonic Temple was built by members and dedicated in 1956.
The copper box was opened at the lodge in Ilwaco. It contained pictures and newspaper stories about the building of the Raymond lodge hall, as well as directories listing all the men in North Pacific County who were members. It also contained a one cent coin from that year.
The Raymond building at 337 Seventh Street was sold late last year after the merger of Gavel 48 lodge of Raymond and Occident 99 of Ilwaco. The newly formed lodge took the name Occident 48 and meets monthly in Ilwaco on the first Thursday evening of the month (except July and August).
