Nature Nurture Farmacy, a nonprofit run by Dr. Alicia Spaulding, wants the spirit of the Winlock Community Garden to continue at home. They are creating 500 garden kits to be sent home with the families of the Winlock School District by May 1.
The kits include: seeds, soil, and a garden manual to get you from start to finish including saving seeds at the end of the year for next year's garden.
Nature Nurture Farmacy is raising money right now to cover the cost of the kits. They are currently under $4 each, a small price to pay to teach a student how to grow a garden. The seeds were collected from various places including a huge donation of seeds from Danielle Craig at Winlock High School.
The community has come together, they have had seven different families sort seeds into packets so we could make sure everyone gets a variety of seeds to grow. We are buying our soil and printing locally to support our community on all levels. You can find more on their facebook page at Nature Nurture Farmacy. If you would like to donate, you can do so through their Facebook page. If you do not have Facebook, please reach out to Dr. Alicia at Naturenurturefarmacy@gmail.com.
The proceeds go to help students grow their own food. As the old saying goes "you can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for life." This same applies to growing a garden.
"I truly believe we are all in this life together and everything we do affects us all in some way. I want to do my part to make a positive impact not only for myself, but for all those around me." said Dr. Alicia.
