ABERDEEN – Harbor Battery Company in Aberdeen has been a well-respected business in Grays Harbor since 1941. Henry Sherman Sr., Cindy Sherman and Henry Sherman Jr own the company.
Henry Sherman Jr. took time from his very busy business to talk shop with the Herald. Sherman said the philosophy that he adheres to at Harbor Battery is, “to remain a locally owned business known for contributing back to the community by providing our customers a dependable product using excellent customer service and continuous technology innovation.”
Harbor Battery has several different types of batteries for any of your needs, including commercial, automotive, motorcycle, ATV, golf cart, marine, SLA, and those miscellaneous, hard-to-find batteries.
Sherman said that he became involved in the battery business in 2001. “We heard that Exide was going to close its doors as a retail outlet on the Port Dock Road and leave the area,” Sherman said. “We approached Exide and asked if we could buy the business and keep it open on the harbor, since it had already been established here by the Aronson family. They agreed and the transition of ownership went forward smoothly.”
The Sherman family has a diverse background in the business world. “The family that runs Harbor Battery has management experience ranging from convenience stores to purified water and ice to healthcare.”
It’s not a long drive to Harbor Battery from Willapa Harbor – especially if you’re looking for quality, competitive prices and experienced personnel.
“Harbor Battery is a long-standing business that will be here for years to come and provides the community with employees that are probably the most knowledgeable people you will talk with about battery sales, maintenance, and accessories!” Sherman said.
Asked what the hardest aspect of being a business owner in Aberdeen is, Sherman said as a matter-of-factly, “The hardest aspect of being a business owner in Aberdeen is the fluctuating sales due to company and industry changes throughout the year.”
Sherman spoke about the state of the economy in Grays Harbor in relation to Harbor Battery. “For us, business seems normal in 2013, which is an increase from prior years when the economy as a whole was suffering.”
