Farmer's Market sees record turnout in Winlock

The Winlock Farmer's Market saw a record 15 vendors setting up shop today--more than double what organizers say has been the norm in the five years of the market's history.

Operated by the Winlock Lions Club, the Farmer's Market is open to all local vendors with produce and hand-made wares for sale, and lead organizer Jeanie Emmenegger said there is still room despite the bumper turnout.

"All of them have done quite well," she said of participants. "We're really happy with it."

Emmenegger said most of the current vendors are newcomers to the market, which began in 2008. She said flowers are tending to sell well while there is a need for food and snacks to be sold at the market, though she acknowledged food vendors must go through a more lengthy and costly permitting process than those who simply sell produce and other wares.

"We're not maxed out yet," she said of the few vendor spaces still available, adding participation can change from week-to-week as no vendors are committed long-term.

To find out more about the Winlock Farmer's Market, which runs each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through September, call Emmenegger at (360) 785-4817, or simply visit the market at the open lot on Kerron St. in Downtown Winlock.
