Castle Rock’s Ellie Gallow (left) congratulates Jaynie Snaza on her second goal during the Rockets 3-0 victory over King’s Way Christian on Thursday evening.

The Lady Rocket soccer team took 2nd place White Salmon to overtime before allowing a goal in the first minute of the overtime. Jaynie Snaza scored goals for CR in the 32nd and 47th minutes.

"We had White Salmon," said CR Head Coach Brian Ziese on Thursday evening after The Rocket’s 3-0 victory over King’s Way Christian. "Tonight was the big game because we had that win that nobody else had. We just have to get that 9th win and earn a playoff spot."

Snaza scored on a pass from Mikayla Risner in the seventh minute, and then Risner earned a second assits when Tessa Hensley scored a goal in the 30th minute. Snaza chalked-up her second goal with an unassisted score in the 70th minute.

Ziese was very pleased with the play of Maddie Williquette and Alina Guerrero who were "stoppers" in the middle of the field. "Madison Veltkamp and Joanne Brounwer (of King’s Way) just killed us last time," continued Ziese. "They are really fast of the turf and are really good at planting their feet. But here they had a little more trouble."

Castle Rock is now 8-6 on the season with games against Seton Catholic and Toledo-Winlock this week. Both games are very key as all three teams have at least a mathematical chance to reach the playoffs. Tuesday’s game against Seton Catholic is also senior night.

Ziese says that his goal is always to reach state but in order to perform well, you have to prepare to play the most skilled teams.

"My whole focus is to go to state, but start preparing for state through the season so you don’t get slaughtered," said Ziese. "I try to focus defense, defense, defense and then counter. We don’t build up an attack."

Ziese describes how he lets his girls loose on a break-away. "I let my girls counter with two on four" he says. Snaza and Risner both have excellent speed and Snaza has great ball handling skills.

No matter who scores the goals this week, they will all be important.
