Summertime on the Harbor is now in full swing and we thought it apt to take a look back at summer activities of years past. On July 10, 1915, the Posey Mutual Benefit society -- comprised of Posey Manufacturing Company employees and their family and friends -- boarded the steamer Champion at Hoquiam and headed to Westport to hold their fourth annual picnic. 238 people attended the picnic which featured an array of games including a seven-inning baseball game, tug of war, men's pie eating contest, boys and girls 50-yard dashes, 60-yard hurdles, a ladies' egg and spoon race, men's mile race and a boys' sack race. A photographer was on hand to capture the ladies nail driving contest which was won by Mrs. G.W. Pierce.
