On February 20, the soup kitchen fed three homeless people and 20 others from around the community. Servers Livvie, Rochelle, and Callie welcome everyone who comes in for a meal.
Every third Thursday, the Adventist Community Services host a free meal at their Soup Kitchen at 1134 Crescent Street in Raymond. The next meal will be on Thursday, March 19 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. They invite anyone who needs a hot meal to come and enjoy.
"The soup kitchen was inspired because we wanted to do something for the community," said Cindy Hamlin. "We started in December and we wanted to feed the homeless or anyone who wanted a hot meal. Willapa 7th Day Adventist Church has a Community Service program and our outreach is to try and help the community. We are always looking for a need and we want to fill those needs."
"Our soup kitchen is open to the whole community," she continued. "You do not have to belong to our church to come and enjoy a hot meal for free. There is no paperwork to fill out, there is no cost to anyone who comes, and all are welcomed."
The fellowship hall can accommodate about 50 people. If there is a greater need and more people come to the soup kitchen, then Hamlin said they would offer a meal more often.
"If anyone knows of a need in our community that we could help with we would love to be contacted," said Hamlin. For any questions, suggestions, or donations contact Cindy Hamlin.
