I was thinking about the train station we used to have in Winlock the other day. I can remember that you could wave the train down and you could hop on or off at any time you would like. It didn't require you to drive to Kelso or Centralia, all you did was stand on the tracks and wave it down. If you don't know where the train station was, it is located behind where the Winlock Flower used to be across from the Worlds Largest Egg. It was a brown long building; it was what I consider a piece of art. When the station closed down that is when you would stand on the tracks and wave down the train...Then eventually service to all the small towns stopped and that included Winlock.

Winlock Schools are getting ready to start their sports programs. If you are interested in playing sports, make sure to get your physicals and everything in to the district office as soon as possible. Also, it's that time when I bug everyone about helping out our schools. When the school year starts, the students are always in need of supplies. If you can donate supplies to "Fill the Bus", please drop them off at the schools. Also, we have new coaches this year. Mike Voie has retired after many years of being the Football coach. Mike you will be missed, I have known you all my life and I know we will see you around.
Winlock has been hit hard these past two weeks; we lost two of the Eichorst boys, both Kenny and Ronnie past away. Whenever you saw either of them, they were always happy to tell you a story and they were always very friendly. They will definitely be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Eichorst family.
Finally, Winlock had its first gang shooting. This is a shock to all of us that someone would shoot someone in the back for disrespecting them. Gangs in Winlock, sad to hear but if these kids feel like they need to be in a gang then something is missing in the community and at the home. Let's hope this opens everyone's eyes and get these kids out of gangs and not on their way to prison for the rest or a majority of their lives.
