The annual Willapa Festival takes place Saturday (8:00 a.m.) and Sunday (9:00 a.m.) at a new location - the Riverfront Park in historic downtown Raymond. At press time, Monday morning, there were at least 20 vendors signed on for the festival. The musical entertainment is primarily local talent providing an array of styles.
Some of Saturday's prime events include the Classic Car Show (at the far end of the field), music from several bands, the co-ed softball tournament, a silent auction and bake sale, the beer garden, and much more.
The Willapa Festival is co-chaired by Michelle Layman of Willapa Printing, Jeff Karnatz of Alder + Co, and Chrystle Nordin of Pacific Seafood, and will share the venue with the Northwest Carriage Museum, Willapa Seaport Museum and the newly opened Alder + Co.
"In year's past, the park was used solely for the classic car show," Layman said. "This year the groups look forward to building their events together."
The festival jump-starts Saturday at noon with vendors and artists showcasing their products and food on display for participants to enjoy. The music also begins Saturday with a variety of tunes for the whole family. "With music streaming throughout the day and into the night from talented local bands, festival-goers are sure to be entertained," Layman said.
The festival is very kid-friendly with Sunday being Family Day from 1-3 pm. Several organizations are sponsoring crafts and activities for kids, including free face painting, free kids activities, free cookie decorating, and a water shower in the street. Plenty of music will be provided.
"Pack up the kids and bring them down on Sunday for free face painting, cookie decorating, sponsored by Raymond Elks, and craft activities, sponsored by Basics Northwest and Teen Advocacy Coalition," Layman noted. "Music in the park continues for the entire family and the festival festivities conclude with the last music artist starting at 5 pm on Sunday. Festival goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs or a blanket to get comfortable on while enjoying the food and fun."
Some of the food vendors will provide "hot dogs, sandwiches, snow cones, cotton candy, elote and more," according to Layman.
"The festival beer garden will again be sponsored by WooHoo Winery and will feature local wine from WooHoo Winery and beer from Willapa Brewing and Wildman Brewing," Layman informed. "There are events happening all over town, be sure to grab a calendar of events on the event's Facebook page for more details."
Layman added, "There is a lot of parking in both lots by the museums."
