The Vader Park Board was able to reach its goal for a new basketball court at McMurphy Park and court construction is expected to begin in the coming days.
Park Board Chair Steve Krohn said the only task left was to find a bid for cement and the project will be a go.
The Park Board had been raising funds Saturday with a hotdog sale during Vader’s City-Wide yard sale and were able to reach their goal by early in the afternoon. The yard sale itself was a success as well, with participating residents reporting at least $100 apiece in sales, according to organizer Judi Costello.
Aside from the basketball court, the Park Board is seeking to complete other projects, including the long-awaited electrification of the park. Electric lines have been dug in the park up to a neighboring resident’s property, and the city is waiting for permission from the property owner to dig to a nearby power pole and complete the project.
