Monday, Sept. 10 at approximately 2:54 p.m. the South Bend Fire Department, Raymond Fire Department, South Bend Police, Raymond Police, and Washington State Patrol responded to a three-vehicle accident at US 101 and Ferry St. in South Bend.
According to the incident report from Washington State Patrol, a Honda Accord driven by a 69-year-old female Raymond resident was driving southbound on US 101 when she stopped to turn left onto Ferry St. She was then hit in the rear by a dump truck operated by a 48-year-old McCleary man who attempted to pass her on the right side, according to the WSP report. The car was then sent into the northbound lane and was struck by a Honda Ridgeline pickup truck driven by a 45-year-old male South Bend resident.
The roadway was blocked for nearly two hours until tow trucks were able to clear the scene and the investigation was completed. Full Throttle Towing was able to tow away the Honda Accord and Ridgeline from the scene. A tow truck was contracted from Aberdeen to remove the dump truck and its load of rock.
The 69-year-old female was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma for her injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected as attributing to the accident.
