Each year Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen runs their program Stockings for Soldiers.
The program is part of a nationwide effort with nearly 1,000 participating Veterans and Family Memorial Care providers.
From now through December 4, stop in and pick up a free Christmas stocking to decorate and stuff with Christmas cheer.
"We have a suggested list of items for the stockings, and you can decorate the stocking as well. We also would like to encourage people to put a couple of stitches to close the stocking for shipping," said Colleen Harrison.
Recommended items include: Christmas candy, chewing gum, mints, multivitamins, batteries, handheld games, crossword puzzles, dominos, canned salmon, crab, shrimp or tuna. The military now supplies lip balm, shampoo, eye drops and sun block to the soldiers.
Harrison Family Mortuary provides, collects and ships the stockings to troops serving abroad in time for Christmas, as their contribution to the program.
"Sending our heroes some good tidings and holiday cheer is a great way for us to show our support and appreciation for the sacrifices they make to keep our country safe and secure," said Colleen Harrison.
To participate in Stockings for Soldiers stop by the Harrison Family Mortuary before December 4, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Harrison Family Mortuary is located at 311 West Market Street, Aberdeen and 141 S. Main in Montesano.
