“We had a great meet here on Thursday,” Raymond HS Head Track and Field Coach Mike Tully told the Herald. “The boys ran away with their side of the meet and the girls team pulled out a win over a pair of tough teams.
“The boys were led by Rayce Newman's trio of individual first-place finishes in the 100, 200, and long jump (19-7),” Tully noted. “Alex Vaca was a double winner in the 400 and 800. Ally Phansisay had a great early season triple jump mark at 43-1¼ , and finished just behind Newman in the long jump. Darol Ratsavongsy made his season debut in leading a sweep of the top four places in the shot put. Aaron deMontigny tried the 3200 for the first time and came away with a victory.” deMontigny also ran third in the 1600.
“Overall, we've had a good start to the season, and hopefully we'll be ready for the upcoming Tri-District Meet in South Bend,” Tully said. “Our goal is to defend our title and keep the Henrie-Weisel Trophy in our possession for another year.”
