August is going to be a very busy month for Ryderwood. In addition to the Garage Sales at the end of the month, there are three Coffee Stops scheduled for the month. This really stretches the availability of volunteers to the limit. What the Coffee Stops all have in common is the need for cookies - homemade ones are always appreciated.
One of the first things to notice coming into town is fresh concrete along the front of Community Hall. The asphalt had some really low spots and now everything is all smooth and level. A concrete walkway has also been installed at the Memorial Garden.
This is a good week for food in Ryderwood. Friday night's dinner at the Café will be Nancy's Taco Salad. Served at 5 p.m., the all-inclusive meal includes, beverage and dessert for $9. Please call 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations. All readers are invited to enjoy these home-cooked meals that volunteers prepare and serve.
The income generated by these dinners and the burgers served on Mondays make the building completely self-supporting. The Burgers (1/3rd lb. beef, chicken or veggie) and mostly homemade soups are served every Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. Every other week (not this one), Karaoke follows at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday morning, August 1, everyone is invited to the new month's Town Breakfast. Prepared by our very capable AMVETS and VFW, this is a feast not to be missed. There is not a better selection of breakfast fare anywhere except possibly a restaurant. There are pancakes, biscuits and gravy, eggs any way you like plus orange juice and bottomless coffee. The prices can't be beat and all proceeds support Veterans and Ryderwood projects.
Sunday evening is another round of Card Bingo at 6:30 p.m. in Community Hall. This game requires zero talent and winning is completely by chance. The only thing needed is one deck of cards for each table of four and a collection of coins from the piggy bank. Four nickels, five dimes, four quarters and a dollar are the most it can cost to play and some get to go home with more change than they brought.
As of this writing, I do not know what's on the menu for Tuesday's (August 4) Senior Nutrition. This is a reminder that all Seniors over the age of 60 are invited to participate in these meals. The only information needed to participate is name and birth date.
Reminders: Register to vote before October 5; Mt. St. Helens Bluegrass Festival, August 7-9; Ryderwood Town-Wide Garage Sales, August 28-29; ARTrails, 3rd & 4th weekends of September.
