Happy December, everyone, and I hope you're staying warm. The cold clear nights have meant some areas don't get a chance to get above freezing all day. The shaded slopes of SR 506 between Ryderwood and Vader looked a little slippery, too! Without a doubt, winter is here, even if it doesn't officially arrive until the 21st of the month.
Meanwhile, this is the first of a new month which means it's time for another Town Breakfast this Saturday from 8 - 10 a.m. This is one of the fund-raisers for our local AMVETS Post who does so very much to help our town and fellow Veterans. The breakfast offerings are over the top with: pancakes, biscuits and gravy, eggs how you like 'em, plus sausage or ham. All that in addition to orange juice and bottomless coffee. You won't find a better deal anywhere around.
Make sure to stop at "The Nest" if you come out for Breakfast. Ryderwood's gift shop where everything is made in town is a great little place to find one-of-a-kind gift items for holiday giving. For now, "The Nest" is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting Monday the 14th, it will be open daily except Sunday until Christmas.
I haven't driven around town at night yet, but I'm sure there are Christmas decorations going up everywhere. In my neighborhood, one neighbor who always decorates seems to have upgraded to LEDs this year, and some new neighbors have increased the number of decorated homes. Thanks for brightening up my little piece of Ryderwood.
Friday evening's Café meal will be Turkey Sandwiches and Tomato Soup for $8. Served from 4-6 p.m., reservations are not needed. The Café meal service has been a real success story. It works because of the efforts of the unpaid staff - AKA volunteers.
Card Bingo is on the calendar for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Community Hall. The game requires zero skill and players bring a little change (4 nickels, 4 dimes, 4 quarters and a dollar) to swap with neighbors. There's a cumulative "7 of Diamonds Dime Pot" where players add a dime each week until a round is won with the 7 of diamonds. The pot is building again after the last winner got more than $20! That's a total investment of $2.60 for a fun evening.
The Senior Lunch menu on Tuesday the 8th will be Meatloaf with Baked Potatoes, Corn & Carrots, Fruit Salad, Cake and Ice Cream. That's quite a meal deal for a bargain price: $3 if over 60, $5 for others. The meal is served at noon in Community Hall's Dining Room. The hot meals are prepared in CAP's training kitchen and café in Kelso, "Grounds For Opportunity". Please call 295-3813 to make or break reservations by 6 p.m. on Monday.
Until next week...
