A residence on the 700 block of C St. in Vader (foreground) caught fire early Thursday morning, causing damage to a nearby house (background) and leading to one injury. The initial house was destroyed in the fire while the second suffered minor damage.

Residents in Vader were awakened early Thursday morning to a structure fire that destroyed one home and threatened another.

Lewis/Cowlitz Fire District 20 reported they responded to a home on the 700 block of C. St. "fully involved, with flames showing from all sides." A home directly north of the initial house had also caught fire, as well as nearby fir trees bordering the two properties.

Firefighters from District 20, as well as Lewis County Fire Districts 2 (Toledo), 15 (Winlock) and 5 (Napavine), were able to save the second structure from severe damage as well as keep the flames from spreading to other houses. A single female inside the residence where the fire started had been able to exit safely, according to reports from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Paramedics with Lewis County Medic One transported her to Providence Centralia Hospital with reported burns on her arm.

The fire itself was not completely extinguished until around 9 a.m. and an investigator with the Chehalis Fire department arrived to determine the cause of the blaze. As of press time, there have been no reports regarding what sparked the incident, though it was reported Monday investigators are still examining the scene for evidence.
