A new business can be seen in downtown Aberdeen near the Bank of America and City Center Drug. The team responsible for the new business, Coastal Printworks, consists of local Aberdeen Police Officers Steve Timmons and Andy Stocker as well as Ocean Shores Police Officer Aaron Glanz.
Timmons and Glanz got involved in t-shirt printing about two years ago according to Timmons, but the big player in the game is Andy Stocker who has been into t-shirt printing for about 20 years. "He owned Stitches for a lot of years and he's a good friend of ours and has kind of gotten us into it and we started just doing it with a heat press in the shop at home," said Timmons.
Coastal Printworks has been at it's current location since September 1, and has received excellent feedback. Since opening the men at the shop have been busy.
"This shop has exceeded our expectations, I knew we would be busy but I didn't realize how busy we would be," said Timmons.
The screen printing shop can take orders of all kinds, from a single shirt with a simple graphic to large orders in volume.
"We do custom, we can take a design and print it or you can come into the shop and tell us your idea and we can draw it up. You can even draw it and bring you're drawing into the shop to see if we can print it," said Glanz.
An average shirt with an average amount of graphics on it can run usually anywhere from $12 to $15, but the guys at Coastal Printworks say that it can vary.
"Rates can get cheaper the more volume the customer orders as well. It depends on quantity and the complexity of the design," Timmons explained.
Glanz commented on the mission of the screen printing shop, "We want to start doing things differently, looking at what's trending and we want to look to see what we can do for our customers. We're taking orders everyday and still keeping our timeliness, getting the orders out in an expeditious manner. Many times a customer can come into the shop and leave with their order," said Glanz.
Coastal Printworks does not have a solid schedule, and instead opt for a "if the lights are on, we're open" type of schedule.
