This "convertible" carriage was designed for multiple uses as a Runabout, Top Buggy, Rockaway and more. The late 19th century design truly makes this a one of a kind carriage and can now be seen at the NW Carriage House Museum in Raymond.
As a result of a generous donation, a late 19th century "New Century Carriage" made by the C.H.Stratton Carriage Company has been added to the Northwest Carriage Museum's historic collection. The "New Century" carriage was also referred to as a "Turn-Under Seat Trap." It was designed to be converted into six different types. With the back seat turned under the front, it was a "Runabout". With the back seat open, it was a "Trap". A folding top could be fitted to make it a "Top Buggy". Other fittings made into a "Rockaway", a "Surrey" or a "Clash Top Trap". This vehicle was sold "in the white" by dealers in different parts of the country and finished to the customer's wishes. The Northwest Carriage Museum is located in Raymond, Washington and currently houses 42 historic horse drawn vehicles and other related artifacts. The museum is open daily from 10am to 4pm year round and just recently completed the new "Barn" which added almost 4000 sq. ft. of additional display space.
