Each year the local school districts honor Veterans Day and this year the local veterans gave back to the schools.
Raymond, South Bend, and Willapa Valley hold assemblies and usually a lunch near Veterans Day to honor the men and women who served our country. This year South Bend High School and Wukkaoa Valley High School had in-person events. The Raymond High School packed up 15 box lunches that were sent to the American Legion Post 150 where veterans picked them up.
The local veterans turned around and gifted each school with a donation check that is earmarked for the Student Need Fund.
"Veterans of Foreign Wars Pacific Post 968 presented a $1,000 check to each high school as our way of saying thanks for remembering our service," said VFW Quartermaster Gordon Aleshire. "The money was designated for student aid. Our way of giving a helping hand."
