Joe Andrew Lundy, a longtime resident of Raymond, Wash., died on January 17, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in Portland, Ore. Joe was born on June 4, 1933, to Charlie Lee Lundy and Ruby Fraley Lundy in Coeburn, Virginia.
Joe is survived by Rita Gee, his companion for many years, of South Bend; two daughters, Sandi Strickland of Sherwood, Ore. and Edie Montez of Wenatchee, Wash.; two step-children, Angela Bogdanovich of Tampa, Fla., and Randy Wyatt of Wenatchee; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia Robertson, of Castalia, Ohio, Nancy Pippins of Collins, Ohio and Linda Sanders or Coeburn, Va.; and four bothers, Charlie of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Ellis of Raymond, Roy of Fife, Wash. and Elmer of Gloucester, Virginia.
His parents; two sisters, Beatrice and Betty; and two brothers, Joe and Billy, preceded Joe in death.
Joe loved fishing and always had his best pal, Sparky, by his side in his boat, for almost 20 years, Joe loved that little dog. He also liked hunting and traveling.
Joe had an extensive military career. He joined the U.S. Marines right after graduating high school and served for four years. He was discharged as a sergeant. While in the Marines, he received several medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nation Service Medal. After discharging from the Marines, he joined the United States Air Force and served for 23 years. He received the Food Conduct Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, along with many other commendations and ribbons.
In 1968, Joe got a call from Washington, D.C. asking him to be an inspector for Air Force One, the President of the United States plane. He declined because at the time he had a wife and two children and there was no on-base housing and the cost of living off base was too expensive. He was an Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent. At retirement, Joe held the highest grade for active duty – SMSGT.
After returning to Raymond, Joe worked at Dennis Company for several years.
There will be a memorial service at a later date.
