We have seen giving Christmas Trees which give gifts to families in the area but this is the first time we are seeing a giving tree for foster kids in our area. Kristina Payne is in the process of getting her Bachelor's Degree in Children's Studies and the giving tree for foster kids is her senior project. Payne works at Donna's Place in Toledo and she asked Donna if they could do this together, they have been busy since they started.
Payne stated, "I have a passion for children's welfare and I wanted to do something in my project to help kids in the community."
"Go Bags" as they are called are for foster kids in crisis in Lewis County. Payne commented "They provide a little comfort for kids who have been removed from their homes and they have nothing to call their own. We would like to give them new pajamas, backpacks and personal hygiene items" she continued. Many of the "Go Bags" will be given to kids who are removed from their homes during the holidays.
Cards on the giving tree range from ages 4-17, they will deliver the "Go Bags" to DSHS on Dec. 21. Please head down to Donna's Place, grab a card to give a child a gift at their most needed time.
