One of the signs proposed by community activists to promote support for a Timberland Regional Library facility in Toledo.

More than 20 enthusiastic supporters showed up to form a Friends of the Library meeting the evening of Aug. 13 at the Morgan Arts Center in Toledo.

Bill and Pat Caldwell, owners of the Downtown Toledo building supporters hope will be approved as a site by the Timberland Regional Library (TRL), asked for and received encouragement as volunteers stepped forward to promote use of the facility.

Plans are taking shape to apply for a 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit status, as well as organize a door-to-door campaign to answer specific questions and concerns. Everyone agreed to get the word out with public postings, email and snail-mails projects.

"Join The Club!" said Mike Morgan, coining the slogan for the group.

Forming the Friends of the Library organization is only one of many steps capable of furthering a TRL branch in Toledo, with TRL officials stating the support of community members makes a strong difference when deciding to add a new facility to their system.

Interested parties can bring questions and suggestions to the next meeting, scheduled to coincide with the monthly Vision:Toledo Arts, Recreation and Entertainment Committee at 6:30 p.m. Aug 27 at Morgan Arts Center. Visit www.morganartscentre.com or call (360) 864-4ART for more info.
