Clarence (Duke) F. Hoven
Clarence (Duke) F. Hoven

Clarence (Duke) F. Hoven passed away, surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.

Clarence was born in Ryderwood, WA on April 21, 1935 to Joseph and Edith Hoven. He was one of 14 siblings. He graduated from Ryderwood and joined the Air Force where he served for four years in Moses Lake, WA, California, Texas, and Alaska as an aircraft mechanic. He married the love of his life, Alice L. Chrisman on June 20, 1959, in Winlock, Wa where they made their home and raised three children.

Clarence worked for Weyerhaeuser for 33 years, first as a green chain man and finally as a supervisor. He was a self-taught tinkerer who could fix anything (even if you didn't know it was broken) and remodeled a two bedroom house into the home his family cherishes. He loved hunting, trips to the beach, clamming, his dahlia garden, his John Deere tractors and spending as much time as possible with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 53 years, three brothers Homer (Shirley) of Winlock; Harold (Virginia) of Rose Valley and Ray (Bev) of Vader and his children, Kim Amrine (Mike) of Toledo, Julie Sorensen (Rick) of Toledo, and David Hoven (Brenda) of Winlock. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren who were the light of his life; Tiffany, Brandi, Travis, Cody, Andrew, Matthew (Spencer), Nicholas (Tessa), Hayley, Ashley, and Madison and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A graveside service was held Friday at Little Falls Cemetery. Donations may be made to Assured Home Health and Hospice of Centralia and Jackson Prairie Church of Chehalis.
