Chief talks cyber bullying with Winlock students

Winlock Police Chief Terry Williams (far right) speaks with fifth graders from Winlock Miller Elementary School on Feb. 11 about the dangers of cyber bullying, as the trend of such activity increases among students that age. Speaking also with fourth graders, Williams told the kids the most important thing to do if they believe they have been the target of cyber bullying is to tell an adult, such as their parents, a teacher, or a police officer, as some offenses can be very serious and require the response of law enforcement. Williams said cyber bullying takes place when someone sends you messages or pictures online or on a mobile device that you did not want, and that are meant to harm or frighten you. Williams said, even if a cyber bully is not serious when threatening a victim, the fact that a victim has been threatened is serious, and the incident should still be reported. Williams added he will continue to follow up with students and make himself available for those who feel they have something to report.
