Aberdeen Police Officers Investigate Injury Collision

On July 27 at about 3:43 pm, officers from the Aberdeen Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at the intersection of Oak Street and Simpson Avenue Officers were further informed that the pedestrian had been in a motorized wheelchair which was currently still under the vehicle.

Upon their arrival the officers observed a female (a 69 year old Aberdeen resident) laying on her back in the roadway. The motorized wheelchair she had been operating at the time of the collision was stuck underneath the front of vehicle (a 2003 Toyota Highlander).

Officers contacted the driver of the Highlander (a 53 year old Montesano resident) and observed her to be visibly upset. She informed the officers that she had been stopped at the stop sign facing southbound on Oak Street and was intending to turn eastbound onto Simpson Avenue. When she observed a break in traffic, she began her turn. As she turned, she collided with the wheelchair that was attempting to cross Oak Street westbound.

The operator of the wheelchair was transported to the Grays Harbor Community Hospital by ambulance. She was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. Her current status is not known at this time.

The investigation into this collision is on-going.
