Organizers have announced open registration for a local Madden 2015 video game tournament during Super Bowl weekend, with a $1,000 cash prize and a replica Super Bowl trophy going to the winner.
Scheduled to take place Saturday, Jan. 31, and Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Winlock Miller Elementary School gymnasium, the tournament is open to all area gamers, as well as those who would simply like to watch.
Former Super Bowl champion and University of Washington graduate David Richie, who has spent time as a Denver Bronco and also played with the LA Extreme, is expected to be on hand to sign autographs, talk with fans, and even help lead a game of flag football.
On Sunday, a live broadcast of the game will be on display so participants won't miss the big game, while vendors will also be available with food, t-shirts and family activities. Prizes will also be available for players who best-display their team spirit with creative outfits and jerseys.
The entry fee for players is $40 and two non-perishable food items, while spectators can enter for $10 and two non-perishable food items. The food collected at the event will be given to the Winlock-Vader Food bank, while a portion of the proceeds will also be contributed to the Winlock School District toward projects such as a new scoreboard for the high school football field.
Room for both players and vendors remains, and those interested in signing up are encouraged to contact Tim White at (360) 520-3124, or gamersworldleague@live.com.
