The Winlock School Board is accepting potential candidates to fill a position vacated by former board member Kay Raupp, with an appointee expected to be approved next month.

Raupp, who had served since 2002, submitted her letter of resignation to the board on Nov. 19, in which she said she feels Superintendent Shannon Criss has improved the district through a positive attitude and hard work, adding she hopes a community member with children would feel inspired to fill her position.

When asked if Raupp had offered a specific reason for her resignation, Criss stated it was her impression Raupp felt, as a long-serving member, it was simply time to move on.

Those interested in offering themselves as potential appointees may submit a letter of intent between now and the board's Jan. 21 meeting. Potential appointees must be registered to vote within the district and must reside within Director District 3, which spans the portion of the district south of SR 505 and east of Ferrier Rd., with a few exceptions.

An appointee would be expected to serve until November of next year, at which time the vacancy would be filled during the General Election, though an appointee would retain the right to run for the position during the election.

To contact the district to declare you interest in appointment, or for more info, contact the district office at (360) 785-3582, or 311 NW Fir St., Winlock, WA 98596.
