Willapa Valley remained undefeated in the Pacific League by dismantling two inferior opponents last week in girls' basketball. The Vikings are 9-0 in the Pacific League and 15-2 in all games.
In the 63-19 home win versus Ocosta last Monday (Jan. 21) the Friese cousins led the assault. Karli scored 16, stole the ball 9 times, and gave out 5 assists, while Lauren tallied 17 points, handed out 7 assists and made 6 steals.
“We got off to quick start tonight, which was one our goals for the game,” Willapa Valley HS Head Girls' Basketball Coach Matt Bannish told the Herald. “We scored 38 first half points, most of which were generated from our press. We had four players in double figures also tonight.”
Alicia Smaciarz pumped in 12 points, Brooke Harden added 10 points and 2 blocks, and Emily Fluke grabbed 8 rebounds.
Valley turned the ball over 12 times and shot 46% from the floor on 26 of 56.
Willapa Valley 51, North Beach 23
Last Friday night at North Beach Valley submerged the Lady Hyaks 51-23. Karli Friese led the way with 14 points.
“We started quick again tonight,' Coach Bannish said. “Emily Fluke had 8 of our 16 first quarter points. We played a real good first and fourth quarter. We took care of the ball with only 10 turnovers. We rebounded much better in the second
half. Lauren Friese pulled down 10 rebounds. Our free throw (11 of 21) shooting
still needs improving, but overall it was good road win for us.”
Fluke ended up with 10 points and 5 rebounds, Harden had 7 rebounds, and Smaciarz dished out 5 assists.
Valley visits Northwest Christian Saturday and hosts South Bend Tuesday.
