Resident Lois Wilson is inviting community members to celebrate the 93rd birthday of three local residents, who all have their birthdays within a few weeks of each other. Betty South had her birthday on Oct. 29, while Marie Chastain will be turning 93 on Nov. 15, followed by Louella Wilson on Dec. 14. "They're cool ladies, every one of them," said Lois, adding their longevity "proves that the water in Vader is good."
The Vader Assembly of God Church food bank will continue with its next opening on Nov. 11, despite falling on Veterans Day, and will be available between 10 a.m. and noon. Their next food giveaway, however, has changed dates and will now be the third Wednesday of each month, falling next on Nov. 19 outside the post office from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information about church programs, call (360) 295-3756.
Time remains to order your Plush Pippen Pie from the Vader Park Board. A 12-inch pie is $6 while a 9-inch pie is $5, with multiple varieties such as apple, berry and pumpkin available to pick up as soon as you order. To make your purchase, or to check on availability, call Park Board Chair Steve Krohn at (360) 880-6281.
City Councilman Andy Wilson is still looking for photos of past mayors to help complete a wall of portraits representing the history of the city's leadership. Andy is calling on all residents who may have access to such photos to provide them for display or at least for the purpose of making a copy for the collection. Andy has emphasized how significant the contributions have been of our past mayors and is hoping the display, currently in City Hall, can help these men and women be remembered.
