Our community organizers are at it again with their annual City-Wide Yard Sale coming up Aug. 2. Made up of dozens of residents holding their own yard sales on the same day, participation is on an at-will basis, and last year’s participants took home an average of $100 apiece in sales. Sales are expected to begin at 8 a.m., and the Vader Park Board will make a showing with hotdogs for sale. To get your home marked on a map to be handed out during the event, contact organizer Judy Costello at (360) 295-3036.
Time is winding down to take part in the grant opportunity for side sewer replacement, and local property owners who want to take advantage of should contact City Hall. Part of ongoing efforts to reduce the infiltration in Vader’s sewer system, the city has been able to take federal grant monies they acquired for manhole replacement and set a portion aside to help qualifying landowners replace side sewers for free. The deadline to apply is July 25 and, with funding set aside for as many as 80 replacements, residents should not hesitate to take part. A workshop to explain the details of the application process is also scheduled for this Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in City Hall.
The Vader Assembly of God’s regular food bank will be open next on July 22 starting at 10 a.m., and again this month on Aug. 12. All community members are welcome, and those with questions may call (360) 295-3756.
The Vader Citizen’s League will be holding another one of their regular children’s events at Werden Park on July 18 and again on July 28. Different crafts and activities have been planned for, all for free, and, while all are welcome to these events, organizers ask that children 8 and younger be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
