As part of our annual program, Lewis County residents will be eligible to obtain vouchers for free disposal of up to 1,000 lbs of household refuse beginning May 1.

Vouchers will be available until Sept. 30, however Lewis County Solid Waste Manager Steve Skinner says residents should wait to obtain a voucher until they are ready to use it because, once issued, the voucher expired after 30 days.

Owners of single-family residences may print a voucher from Lewis County’s web site, www.lewiscountywa.gov. Renters may obtain a voucher by completing an application available at the Central Transfer Station or the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility Office, both of which are located at 1411 S. Tower Ave., in Centralia. Is using such an application, it may take up to five days before you receive a voucher.

One voucher will be issued per primary residential address. The program is open to Lewis County residential households only. Businesses and non-county residents are not eligible to participate. If a load exceeds 1,000, customers much be prepared to pay regular fees of $90 per ton.

Remember, by recycling items such as newspapers, magazines, cardboard, tin and aluminum cans, clear/brown/green glass bottles and jars—all free at the transfer stations—you can allow more room for refuse in your free load.

A voucher cannot be used to dispose of tires, washing machines, dryers, dish washers, water heaters, stoves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, computers, computer monitors or televisions. Household hazardous waste (such as paint and lawn chemicals) will be accepted at the Central Transfer Station’s Hazo Hut from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday, and on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

For more information, contact the Lewis County Solid Waste Office at (360) 740-1451 or 1-800-749-5980.
