Toledo Senior Donevin Merely (background, right) stuffs the ball over a Walla Walla Academy defender, but the Knights had the last laugh dropping the Indians 50-45 and ending their state championship aspirations.
The little guys were just not quick enough to counteract the tall, lanky team from Walla Walla Academy as the Knights ended Toledo's season with a 50 to 45 loss in the WIAA State Tournament Regionals Saturday night in Tumwater.
Brent Wood led the Indians with 17 points including some hot early shooting, but the Indians could not sustain the sizzling hand shooting to pull the Knights from their very effective zone defense.
Grant McEwen added seven points and nine assists, while Forrest Wallace and Donevin Merly each contributed seven more points.
The Indians ended their season in the round of sixteen remaining teams in the WIAA State Tournament. Their season record was 18-7 and finished 15-3 in their first year back in the 2B Central conference.
