Toledo City Council update

The Toledo city council met the nights of Monday, June 15 and Monday, June 29 to discuss the town's regular business.

To start the June 15 meeting, Police Chief John Brockmueller led the flag salute, after which the commissioners motioned to approve the consent agenda, which was seconded and carried. For the mayor's report, Mayor Jerry Pratt reported that he had visited the new wastewater treatment facility, and that it is up and running, and encouraged other council members to take a tour. Head of the Public Works Department Craig McCown reported the treatment plant had been prepared that day, and that everything had been switched over to the new facility.

The next item on the council's agenda was the Police Chief's report, where Mr. Brockmueller reported that there had been 21 calls for service in the past two weeks prior to the meeting. He also questioned why it took dispatch thirty minutes to contact him back one night, which they cited was due to the wrong phone number being on file for Mr. Brockmueller, noting that they will check into it.

City Clerk Michelle Whitten reported on regular business such as the local Tap House requesting permission to put a beer garden out for Cheese Days, as well as the Park Board's request for an extra dumpster. Whitten then stated that the paperwork is done for the water tower grant funds, saying that the engineer will be doing testing for it soon. The council motioned to approve the requests, which was seconded and carried.

The council discussed whether Winlock was going to renew their contracting of Toledo's police services, to which Mayor Pratt informed the council that no decision had been made by the city of Winlock.

After the business was taken care of and the meeting was over, the council made a motion to adjourn.

The Toledo City Council met Monday, June 29 in a special meeting, to first discuss the police services contract with the city of Winlock. The draft of the contract was a duplicate of the last terms of service, but has had some minor changes. The wording had been cleaned up, but none of the content was changed. The contract was approved by the council and the Mayor signed any minor changes. One change was that the ordinance required at least three officers to be hired from Toledo.

Additionally, the council discussed a change order for additional fencing that was placed down the east side of the road to the wastewater treatment plant, in order to keep livestock off of the road. The complication for the council was figuring out which type of barbed wire to use for the situation. The council made a motion to approve the change order, which carried unanimously.

After the council approved the change order, the meeting was adjourned.

The next Toledo City Council meeting will be held Monday, July 20 at 6pm.
