The Rain Derby is over and the winner was Gina Wilson who guessed there would be 80.01 inches of rain in 2015. The actual total amount was 83.01. She won $1000 and missed the $5000 prize because she did not have the December total correct. She missed the December total by 6 inches. The next closest winners all had 83.00 inches. This was the closest results we have ever had.
As I mentioned last month we also recycle aluminum cans. It is a steady income flow but could be more. Last month there was also an announcement that Bob Dzutsoff was retiring from collecting cans for the Children's Hospital. I met with Mr Dzutsoff about the Lions collecting his cans and setting up a budget item to contribute to the Children's Hospital. So if you still wish to do something good with your aluminum cans, you can bring them to the Willapa Harbor Lions Paper Shack and Aluminum Can Recycling. The money obtained by selling them will be put to good use in the Commumnity and if the cans are marked Children's Hospital we can put a line item in our donation budget for the Children's Hospital.
The Willapa Harbor Lions is a service club of 70+ men and women who provide service to the Community by decorating the businesses with Christmas greens, provide the fish for Case's Pond for the Kids at Spring Fishing Opening and provide an annual Easter Egg Hunt for the kids in Raymond and South Bend. We do fund raising projects like the Rain Derby, sell fresh quality nuts in the fall for Christmas Baking, have provided the Community Birthday Calendar for the past 49 years and provide a food booth at the Pacific County Fair selling the World Famous Lions French Fries. Every other year we bring the circus to town and on alternate years we do Notes on the Willapa, a fund raiser for the fine arts programs in all three School Districts.
If you would like to serve your Community the Lions is a great way to do it. You would be joining a great group of volunteers, that are part are of Lions Club International, that meet once a week for lunch and plan the fund raisers that provide the money contributed back to the Community for scholarships, youth sports, food banks, Adopt a Family at Christmas time, contribute to Shop With A Cop, needed equipment in both the Raymond Movie Theater and the Swimming Pool along with many other worthwhile projects. Several of these projects need sponsorships, donations or ads purchased by Community Businesses. We really appreciate those businesses that support our projects. Come join us for lunch at The Barge on Thursdays at noon and we will even buy your lunch.
