Raymond Track & Field
“We're off to a great start to track season,” Raymond HS Head Track and Field Head Coach Mike Tully told the Herald. “The team is working hard and the early season soreness is starting to wear off. Our numbers are up and we have a nice mix of returning state participants and good, young talent. We even have a few talented athletes that are returning to the track after a year or two off.
“Our boys team is going to be a force in many meets due to both our numbers and our ability to score points in numerous events,” Tully said. “We have returning state participants in the throws (Andrew Hamilton), jumps (Ally Phansisay), hurdles (Hunter Borden), and Sprints (Rayce Newman). Our distance crew has been looking good and should score some points as well. Also, look for a couple talented freshmen to rack up some points. If everything goes right, we could be in the hunt for sub-district and district titles.
“The girls are short on numbers compared to the boys, but that doesn't mean that they won't be competitive,” Tully said. “Hannah Dykes, Aiysha Garcia, Aubrey Boyes and Kira Dunsmoor are all returning state veterans. Our strongest areas are the sprints, relays, and jumps; although we could score some points in the throws as the season goes along. We're looking forward to hosting our first meet of the season on Thursday.”

Willapa Valley Track & Field
“We have a pretty good turnout with 38 total athletes, which represents almost 40 percent of our high school population,” Willapa Valley HS Head Track and Field Coach Dave Ege told the Herald. “That should give us more depth than we have had in the past. We return state champions in the boys and girls vault (including), David Rockett and Michalea Huber. We also return five other medalists from the 2012 state meet (including), Don Carlson (javelin), Katrina Ege (discus), Karli Friese (pole vault), Lauren Friese (pole vault) and Anthony Sagen (pole vault).”
Assistant coaches for the Valley are Bob Archer and Steve Hudson.
