SOUTH BEND – To start the next basketball season the South Bend Indians have named Manuel Rangel as head coach to start the 2014-2015 varsity basketball season.
“(Rangel) is an enthusiastic teacher who will be great for our kids,” said South Bend Athletic Director Tom Sanchez. “His beliefs fit well with what we value and they also go hand in hand with the strengths of our kids. We are happy to have him,”
Rangel will leave White Swan High School where he has been a head coach for the past 12 years. Rangel was also very active in his local community working with the White Swan Arts and Recreation Community Coalition since 2008. He helped coordinate the Spring Jam Basketball Camp and Tournament, a youth drug and alcohol prevention program, getting things started in 2003 and currently still an annual program.
From 2005 to present, Rangel has brought titles and championships to White Swan, participating at state every year. Rangel has also been named Coach of the Year at least six times.
