Why do they change the time on a Sunday? Or any other day when folks might like to sleep in? (Or at all...) So instead of getting to do just that, my brain and body are awake an hour earlier than the clock. Boring... To paraphrase something I saw on the Internet: The Old Indian said, "Only the white man would believe you can have a longer blanket by cutting off one end of a blanket and sewing it on the other end."
Since I only have two clocks that need to be manually changed, I did that right away only to find that the atomic clock hadn't done it's thing before 10 o'clock - or was it 9? Or 11? If you've ever read anything on how time was kept prior to the railroad, I guess we should count ourselves lucky.
Friday night's dinner at the Café will be Linda's Slow-Cooked Pork Chops. Call Linda at (360) 295-0875 by Wednesday to make reservations. The meals are served at 5 p.m. and are always all-inclusive from beverage and salad to dessert. The price per meal is $9 with proceeds supporting the Café. This would not be possible without the all-volunteer staff.
The weekend has "Open Mic" on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Café. Bring your instrument, voice and/or ears and enjoy an evening of varied songs and music performed by some of our area's finest. Sunday evening has another Ice Cream Social and Card Bingo starting at 6 p.m. in Community Hall. Proceeds from the Social are contributed to a "town beautification" fund. The Card Bingo requires absolutely no skill and the most you trade with friends is $2.60.
There will be no Senior Nutrition Lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 11, as that is Veteran's Day. In the town newsletter, the calendar has it wrong. The Post Office will be closed for the holiday.
Our VFW Commander invites all to attend the Veteran's Parade in Toledo on Saturday the 8th at noon. Also, for those who would like a chance to see Sweet Swing! (the lovely a cappella that entertained Ryderwood in September), they will perform their patriotic act at the Auburn Avenue Theater in Auburn on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Have a great week!
